Philosophy
Most brands don't have a positioning problem. They have an empathy problem.
In Dentsu's most recent CMO survey, 87% of marketing leaders agreed that modern strategy will require more creativity, empathy, and humanity.
The problem is that consumers have grown distrustful of brands that most brands now carry a perception problem: people don't believe brands actually care about their needs.
As a result, brands struggle to connect with people in any way that actually lands.
I treat the brand/audience relationship the way I'd treat any relationship worth keeping — listen first, understand what someone actually needs, and only then decide what to offer them — then build the positioning and the internal system that keeps the whole company living that out that belief.
